GETTING CAUGHT green-handed is the route to go these days. Thanks to a big push on cleaning up the environment, green is a red-hot color.
Keep Belmont County Beautiful is a major player in the greater emphasis being placed on recycling efforts. For the first 11 months of the current year, Keep Belmont County Beautiful has collected more than 378,000 pounds of mixed paper and some 234,000 pounds of glass, cans and plastic. That equates to more than 300 tons of recyclables.
We see that as a major shot in the arm to the Ohio Valley landscape. We commend Keep Belmont County Beautiful for its passionate and relentless recycling efforts. We all benefit from its success.
The group is a division of the Jefferson-Belmont Regional Solid Waste Authority. It is an entity which has carved a pivotal niche into the well-being of the Ohio Valley.
In conjunction with the commitment to recycling, Solid Waste Authority employees are handing out "caught green handed postcards." For those "caught green handed", they fill out the postcard with name, address and their recycling station and return it to the Solid Waste Authority. In return, they will get a gift card from Wal-Mart/Sam's Club.
That is a nice added motivation for a good deed which is in need of no motivation.
Keep Belmont County Beautiful and its sister group in Jefferson County have each been named recipients of the 2008 President's Circle Award. They will receive equipment which will aid their clean-up efforts.
The Ohio Valley is a scenic place to live. Thanks to the recycling efforts of the Keep Belmont County Beautiful and Keep Jefferson County Beautiful, it is getting cleaner each day.
