WINTERSVILLE — Jefferson-Belmont Regional Solid
Waste Authority officials are hoping to raise awareness
and distribute information through its updated Web site,
according to Executive Director Patrick Lanaghan.
“Basically, everything that we do can be found on
the Web site,” he said.
The Web site at www.RegionalSolidWaste.org is
part of the authority’s long-term plan, said Lanaghan.
It includes information such as the annual district report,
a list of board members, the authority’s bylaws and
board meeting minutes.
“Since we’re a public agency and we have to
distribute this information, we thought this was the best
way,” said Lanaghan.
The Web site, created by the Steubenville-based Ridgefield
Group, also includes information on recycling and conservation
directed toward children and adults, said Lanaghan.
“We had two goals in how we were approaching this:
To get across all the important board information and to
provide educational tools,” said Lanaghan, adding
area teachers might find the Web site useful in teaching
conservation and recycling.
The site also directs users to the Environmental Protection
Agency’s children’s activities Web site, which
addresses several issues, including solid waste and air
and water pollution.
“It’s a great resource for teachers,” said
Lanaghan, adding the site has age-appropriate materials
for children through high school.
Adults can use the Web site to learn more about solid waste
reduction, compost, landfills and the benefit of recycling,
according to Lanaghan.
“There’s a lot of basic facts about solid waste,” said
Lanaghan, adding the authority hopes to soon add a section
on e-cycling, the recycling of electronic items.
He noted the recycling drop-off areas in Jefferson and
Belmont counties are listed. The Web site also will list
upcoming clean-up events.
Authority officials are inviting the public to contact
them through the Web site and give suggestions about how
to better serve the district.
“We’re pretty positive about the direction
(the solid waste authority is) going in,” said Lanaghan.
